A Leaf In My Hair is the latest ebook by Light Sleepers. It’s an animated children’s book that works on both iPhone and iPad. I tried the iPad version of the app and found it to be exactly similar in concept with their previous animated ebook “Look at All The Animals“. A Leaf In My Hair tells a simple and cute story about a hedgehog and a leaf.
The app is really simple to use, so no instructions are needed. You just tap small arrows to flip through the pages and tap the text to hear the narration and see the animations. The artwork in “A Leaf In My Hair” is an interesting mix of 3D and 2D graphics. The main character is a cute and well animated 3d hedgehog. And that is the best part of the story: believable and funny animated sequences that support the story well.
There are 8 pages of content and each page contains short narration and animated sequence that lasts about 10 seconds, so unfortunately the experience doesn’t last long. I think that with some interactivity in the animated sequences and with a few mini games, the replay value of the app would have been much higher. I think people expect much more content and interactivity these days, even in a two dollar app. My 3 year old daughter also tested this app and asked several times: “Where can I touch?”. So she was also wishing for more interactivity. Nevertheless, the story made her laugh!
It’s logical to compare “A Leaf In My Hair” with “Look at All The Animals” and I personally enjoyed the latter more. I think “Look at All The Animals” looks better and has more captivating story. However, my 3 year old daughter disagrees, she likes “A Leaf In My Hair” more. She immediately wanted to read it again. The story made her laugh.
